Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large dutch oven over medium heat. Once hot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 4 minutes, or until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
  2. Add the celery and carrot to the skillet. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent sticking, until the vegetables begin to soften.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground chicken and chicken sausage to the skillet. Cook for 7-8 minutes, breaking up the meat with a spoon as it browns, until no pink remains.
  4. Stir all of the seasonings into the meat and vegetables. Sauté for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. Add the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste, stirring well to combine. Bring the sauce to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the chicken bolognese simmer uncovered for 1.5 hours. Stir every 15-20 minutes to prevent the sauce from sticking to the bottom and to ensure even cooking.
  7. Serve the bolognese sauce over your favorite pasta.. Top with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with a sprinkle of fresh basil for a burst of color and flavor.
  8. Pro Tip: If freezing for later, let the sauce cool completely before storing it in an airtight container. It freezes well for up to 3 months!
