Grilled Italian Sausage Caprese Sandwiches

When your favorite Italian salad and your ideal grilled sausage sandwich collide… you get Grilled Italian Sausage Caprese Sandwiches! 

The classic Caprese salad inspired this Caprese sandwich recipe. It features freshly grilled Italian sausage, summer-ripe red tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, a taste of basil, and finished with a drizzle of balsamic.

  1. Prepare the sausages. Bring a skillet of water large enough to immerse the sausages to a boil. Add the sausages, turn the heat off and cover. Let sausages steep for 7 minutes. Drain the water and brown sausages in olive oil for 5 minutes per side, or until golden, in a pan over low heat.
  2. Split buns down the middle and place face down on a warm grill. Keep a close eye and heat for just a few minutes.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches. Lightly drizzle balsamic glaze over half of the sausage roll. Spread pesto on the remaining half of the sausage roll. Layer some arugula on top, then weigh it down with mozzarella rounds. Top with the sliced tomato. Finish it all up by adding in grilled Italian sausage and a drizzle of balsamic.
  4. It’s time to kick back and enjoy!
